SRL Diagnostics has launched a diagnostic test for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease called Fatty Liver Index. The diagnostic test is an algorithm-based index that is composed of multiple parameters, including the results of the GGT test, triglyceride test, weight, height, body mass index, and waist circumference for predicting the risk of NAFLD.

Mr. Anand, the CEO of SRL Diagnostics, stated that several studies have suggested the prevalence of NAFLD in India ranges from 9% to 32% in the general population. These studies have also found the association of NAFLD with overweight or obese and diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Over the past few decades, NAFLD has emerged as a public health concern contributing to a significant increase in hepatic and extrahepatic diseases. NAFLD is a deadly lifestyle disease requiring prevention and control at an individual level, at the family level, as well as at the government and administrative levels. India is the first country to have added NAFLD to its National Disease Control Programmes by integrating it into the National Programme on Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, and stroke.
